Tutorial: Clutch Purse
Supplies Needed:
Pattern includes:
(all of my patterns include 1/2″ seam allowance)
Step 1
Cut the fabric, lining, interfacing, and batting
Step 2
baste the interfacing and batting to the fabric
Step 3
fold in half and sew the straight sides
According to the fold line on the pattern (be sure not to accidentally fold it the wrong way)
Step 4
create a triangle in the corner and sew 1″ in from the tip – then turn the bag right side out
This makes give the bag more of a shape so it’s not completely flat, and it reinforces the corners of the bag.
Step 5
Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the lining
Step 6
place the bag inside the lining and sew with right sides together
Leave a small gap in the top so that you can turn it right-side out.
Step 7
Turn the bag to the right side through the gap and edgestitch
Step 8
add glue inside one side of the clutch frame
You can use any kind of glue that works with both metal and fabric. I prefer tacky glue because it doesn’t dry too quickly, so it gives me some time to finish getting the fabric into the frame before drying.
Step 9
push the fabric into the clutch frame
I used a pair of tweezer to help push the fabric is (other narrow tools can work too, such as a flathead screwdriver). Slowly work your way around pushing the fabric into the the clutch frame.
Step 10
on the inside of the bag push a piece of twine or string into the frame
Start on one end and slowly push the piece of twine into the inside of the metal frame. This adds a little more bulk, keeping the fabric from easily falling out.
Step 11
repeat steps 8-10 for the second side of the bag
When finished, trim the excess twine.
Finished!
