Hello! My name is Emily, and I am fascinated by cosplay! (who could have guessed ^^;)
My mission is to help all of you who are new to cosplay figure out how to get started. I’m by no means an expert, but I remember how intimidating the whole idea of cosplay was when I first started out. With a little more help to start, I could have improved much quicker without making all those beginner mistakes.
I have been cosplaying at conventions since 2008. I started with absolutely no idea how to sew or make props, or anything like that. I was so overwhelmed by the idea that I didn’t start actually making my own costumes until several years later. And even though those first costumes were not very good, I was suddenly hooked.
Crafting, from sewing to making props, was actually a lot of fun. I continue to learn new materials and techniques all the time, and I’m excited to be teaching you how to just get started and have fun with the process.
But cosplay is so much more than just making costumes. In fact, you don’t ever need to make your own if you don’t want to. You can enjoy the experience at conventions while you roleplay your favorite character and work with photographers to get incredible pictures. Cosplay is also a great way to meet other people with similar interests and make a lot of friends along the way.
Whether you’re here to design your own costume from scratch, to take away the first-con anxiety, or to learn a few tips to level up your next cosplay, I hope you have fun and learn a lot!
